The league announced Thursday that the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs will play a two-game series at London Stadium on June 24-25, 2023. The two section rivals were scheduled to meet in London in 2020, but the matches had been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Major League Baseball’s last visit to London was in 2019, when the New York Yankees swept the Boston Red Sox in a two-game series. These were Major League Baseball’s first two regular games played in Europe.

The Cubs and Cardinals have played road games before. The Cubs started the 2000 season in Tokyo against the New York Mets and played a three-game series against the Montreal Expos in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2003. The Cardinals played a two-game series against the Cincinnati Reds in Mexico City in 2019.

The series in London in 2023 is part of the agreement for international matches in the collective agreement. Other matches are scheduled for London in 2024 and 2026, Paris in 2025 and annually in Mexico City from 2023 to 2026. An opening match is also planned for somewhere in Asia in 2024 and specifically in Tokyo in 2025. .
