Immigration law: “The idea is that we all agree together,” says Renaissance MP Ludovic Mendes

Ludovic Mendes, Renaissance deputy for Moselle, is the rapporteur for the immigration law. This text is currently being discussed in committee on Monday November 27. During the afternoon, the debates were heated. “It’s a bit normal. Hostilities had to be launched strongly by certain political parties. (…) It’s a marathon which starts in the law committee, which should last until Friday evening [1er décembre]”indicates the parliamentarian, who wishes “ensure that minds are as peaceful as possible”. He indicates that the presidential party “reach out to everyone.”

Article 3 at the heart of the debates

Asked about Renaissance’s strategy, the deputy answers : “What is being unraveled is not to please the left wing or the right wing. We are not trying to please the Republicans in the National Assembly either. this text for the moment, they are legislative riders, who have nothing to do in this text.” Ludovic Mendes adds: “The Senate added a lot of things, (…) the minister let it happen because he is in discussion with the Senate.”

The rapporteur states that the text “who will leave the National Assembly” will be “the text of the National Assembly”. “The idea is that we all agree together, senators and deputies, to find an agreement”, assures the deputy. Concerning article 3, he states: “We proposed something different again, different from the Senate, different from the government.”
