A team of “Special Envoy” went to the eastern front, in the Donbass, where fierce fighting is taking place.
A team of “Special Envoy” was able to share the daily life of soldiers, but also of caregivers engaged on the eastern front of Ukraine, where fighting has been raging for several months. These men try to defend their country meter by meter. They were civilians a year ago… They find themselves on the front lines, risking their lives every day.
The cold, the fear, the dangers
Artem, 24, is a pointer in the artillery; before the war, he was a railroad worker, “a simple life“, he said, but “the army [l’]changed a lot“. Volodymyr, he is still a doctor, he wanted “participate in the liberation” because “there was the risk [que les Russes] come in [s]at home” ; he now practices war medicine. In an ambulance transporting the wounded, Edua, a 42-year-old nurse, says to himself “fatigue“, but he stays because he knows his role is”necessary“. Braving the dangers, the fear, the cold and the mud, everyone has only one idea: they don’t want to lose the war… even if they realize that it might last.
A report by Florian Le Moal and Mathieu Dreujou broadcast in “Special Envoy” on February 16, 2023.
