(Washington) Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson will quit her post as chair of the Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) of the International Monetary Fund at the end of December, the Washington institution announced on Tuesday.
Mme Andersson, the first woman to hold the post, replaced Lesetja Kganyago, governor of the Central Bank of South Africa in January. She was then Minister of Finance and had a three-year term.
The IMFC is made up of 24 members who are central bank governors, finance ministers or officials of comparable rank, and who are among the member countries of the IMF.
“The mandate of Mme Andersson as President has been productive and successful, with key accomplishments including extraordinary support to IMF members due to the pandemic, agreeing and implementing the largest SDR allocation in history. , and significant efforts to strengthen the Fund to better serve members, ”the IMF said in a statement.
The Fund said the selection process for the next president is currently underway.
Spain’s Minister of the Economy and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calvino, has already been nominated as the European candidate for the presidency of this committee which advises and reports to the IMF Board of Governors.
“This is a position compatible with the functions” of Mr.me Calvino, according to a statement from the Spanish ministry.
