A first video of a hostage was released by Hamas on Wednesday April 24, and sparked numerous reactions in Israel. In the images, the young man kidnapped by Hamas on October 7, 2023 speaks under duress and implores the Israeli government to act to free all the hostages.
In the first images released by Hamas, we see Hersch Goldberg-Polin, 23 years old. The young man, filmed under duress, implores the Israeli government to release him. He was kidnapped on October 7, his hand blown off by a grenade from his captors. The video broadcast on Wednesday April 24 constitutes the first proof of life of one of the 133 Israeli hostages for several weeks.
“We are worried about his health”
Contrary to the authorities’ instructions, the young man’s parents agreed to broadcast the video in Israel. In turn, they address their son. “It’s a relief to see him alive, but we are worried about his health”, declares Jon Polin, the young man’s father. Shortly after Hamas published the video, relatives of the hostages demonstrated in front of the residence of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. For now, hostage negotiations are at an impasse.
