Neither the law nor law enforcement seem to hold back the owners of the Funguyz business. A week after being raided by the police on the day it opened, their magic mushroom shop is once again welcoming customers.
On Tuesday, the store’s doors were open to the public. The colored posters that covered the inside of the windows have however given way to more discreet black curtains. Surveillance cameras are also installed outside the store, which was not initially in place.
The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) arrested four people and carried out a search on July 10. For context, any activity related to magic mushrooms (possession, sale, production) is illegal on Canadian soil.
“We expect there to be a police raid, it happened to all our businesses. If that happens, we will reopen immediately afterwards, ”said co-owner Hector Hernandez the morning of the descent.
Inside the store, sachets of dried mushrooms, capsules containing low doses of mushrooms and various products such as chocolate and gummies with psilocybin (the active ingredient found in magic mushrooms) were deposited on tablets that day.
Contacted by The Press, the SPVM claims to be monitoring the situation closely. “When the investigators have confirmation that there is a criminal act, it is certain that there will be an intervention,” said spokesperson Sabrina Gauthier.
On Google, we can see that the Funguyz business shows an opening time of 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and this for all days of the week. It has also received nearly twenty positive reviews from satisfied consumers or people who seem to support the decriminalization of magic mushrooms.
Several of these notices were left in the last few days, and therefore after the police raid which had forced the closure of the store.
