As we approach the mega-church in The Woodlands, a very Republican area north of Houston, Texas, music resonates. However, it is not a concert, contrary to what a first impression may leave, but rather a mass. In front of the building, we meet families of almost all origins.

At the question, “Which party do you think will win the presidential election?”a couple in their sixties, Lou and Don respond heartily: “Trump has proven that he is capable. He has the right to another chance”. There is also this American of Romanian origin, Lucian, who came with his five children. His choice ? Trump too, “because the others are not yet ready. Only Trump is”he says, convinced.

A republican for sure

And then there’s Brian, full beard, shaved head and camouflage outfit. Which party does he think will win? “It will surely be a Republican this year,” he says.

“They’re pushing for Trump, but I don’t know if it will be my choice. Honestly, every election you choose the least worst candidate.”

Not far from the church, in the Angry Elephant bar, in reference to the animal of the Republican Party, Kevin is wearing an anti-democrat t-shirt. However, he will no longer vote for Trump: “If you follow what makes the most noise, is it going to pay off in the long run? For me, it’s still too early. I want to hear who has the best policies for the American people. Not just for some people, I want everyone to win.”.

Kevin is still waiting to know who will remain in the race of Nikki Haley, Ron DeSantis, Vivek Ramaswamy and Chris Christie before deciding. Iowa votes in a week. Texas will vote in two months, in March 2024, on “Super Tuesday”.
