Sébastien Vahaamahina should no longer push back the lawn of a rugby pitch. The Clermont player announced, Friday, May 5, in the columns of The Team, that he would certainly end his career. The player of Wallisian origin, who has 46 selections with the XV of France between 2012 and 2019, has not been seen in the yellow jersey since December 10 and a shock which earned him a fractured nose and a concussion, during the European Cup match against the South African Stormers.

I have increasingly strong symptoms after each concussion, with an impact on my life as a professional rugby player but also on my private life., he explains, also revealing that this concussion is his tenth listed in the last six years. Held away from the field, Vahaamahina is having a lot of trouble recovering from his injury. “I had headaches, dizziness, fatigue”he recalls.

“I am ashamed for my club”

His operation is first postponed, then he must go to the block again: “I spent three and a half days strictly bedridden in the hospital. I couldn’t even raise my head […] I even thought I was going to die, never walk again, live with violent headaches all my life. I had been sleeping fifteen hours a day since December 10.” If he has today “resumed an almost normal life”the second line thinks that for his career, “It’s over.”

Vahaamahina is very angry with his club, which he accuses of not recognizing his “responsibilities”. “Five months have passed and they could have made me a decent and clear proposal to properly end my history with the club”, he regrets. The player waits “an agreement that [sa] health, [son] contract and their duties of protection are respected”. “I played nine years in Clermont”he recalls. “Nine years of unfailing commitment to ASM and today I am ashamed for my club as my dismissal for incapacity is in progress.”
