– The Strasbourg coach Julien Stephan : “We had started in the worst possible way by conceding a largely avoidable goal very early on. I really liked the behavior of the team, their mental reaction to avoid doubt and their ability to put the opponent under pressure in permanence. We dominated in all areas of the game in the first half. I regret the equalizer that came too quickly. They came twice into our box and scored two goals. In the second half, I liked the self-sacrifice of the team, because here it pushes very hard at the level of the public. It is a point which allows us to turn the clock”.
– Racing defender Lucas Perrin : “On the free kick from Fred (Guilbert), I have the reflex to set foot and it goes well into the small net. Wonderful ! If I do it again ten times, I think it leaves eight times in the gallery and once on the post. This is a good point taken. We are not leaving dry. A lot of teams are going to be broke here, especially with a stadium full like that. But I think we could come away with the victory.”
- THE ANALYSIS OF OUR CONSULTANT CLAUDE SPRENG:
Lucas Perrin delivered a good defensive performance, in line with his performances in 2022. After a complicated start to the season, the former Marseille player has gained in experience, placement intelligence and consistency. And at the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium, he concretized his progress by scoring his first goal in the Strasbourg jersey (his second in L1), with a small masterpiece in passing (29th minute). He took over with an acrobatic volley a free kick from Frédéric Guilbert. A nice “papinade” which the native Marseillais will remember for a long time.
Racing scored a quarter of his headed goals this season (12/48). Habib Diallo was opportunistic to score from near the header after a corner hit by Sanjin Prcic. The Strasbourgers also scored their two goals of the afternoon from set pieces. It was one of the areas of progress pointed out by Julien Stéphan in mid-season.
