After a year and a half of roaming, Anita Feng, former chef and owner of the late Trilogy dumpling restaurant, sets down her bags. The J’ai Feng grocery store, a parallel project born during the pandemic, will leave the ephemeral to settle permanently in Little Italy.
The announcement of the upcoming opening of the establishment aroused a lot of enthusiasm among Anita Feng’s faithful, but also its share of confusion. “Since the announcement, people have been asking me if they can book. It’s really a grocery store, ”insists the one we recently saw at Candide, Prunelle, vinvinvin and Roch le Coq. As its new room only has a small kitchen, it does not allow the preparation of meals on the fly.
This room is the one formerly occupied by Monsieur Crémeux, rue Beaubien Est, next to the former Cul-Sec, where I have Feng briefly settled last December. There you will find Anita Feng’s condiments, including her already famous red oil, as well as Szechuan fermented cabbage and radish. A selection of imported products, handpicked (soy sauce, sesame oil, fermented bean paste), will also be offered.

“The idea is to concentrate on good Chinese products,” she explains. When you go to the Chinese grocery store, there are so many brands and tastes. Often people ask me: “What am I buying?” ”
I have Feng will also be a place where you can stop to grab, in the fridge, a small dish to enjoy at home or warmed up on the premises (the room has four seats). The chef talks about cucumber salad, tiger salad, noodle or rice dishes and possibly broths served at the window in winter. A menu that is expected to evolve as she becomes familiar with the space.
While waiting for the official opening, scheduled for the end of the month, it is still possible to order on the online store various products that will be on the shelves of the grocery store, such as red oil I Feng.
