Anger and malaise among the Young Republicans. In Brittany, two departmental federations of the youth movement have decided to self-dissolve, as a sign of protest against the national line of the LR party, and above all the choice of the majority of deputies not to vote for the motion of censure which would have overthrew the government.
>> Pension reform: the shadow of 49.3 hangs over the first congress of the Horizons party
They thus warmed up their telephones, as soon as the motion of censure failed. For these young people on the right, this vote had nothing to do with the pension reform: it was absolutely necessary to mark the difference with Emmanuel Macron. “When one is elected in opposition to the candidates of the President of the Republic, behind, one is in the opposition, and one votes the motion of censure. Faced with this breaking point, many of us slammed the door and said enough was enough.“, explains Mathieu Maston, who thus puts an end to seven years of commitment in the party.
“No connection with the youth”
And he is not the only one: the federations of Morbihan, then Ille-et-Vilaine decide to self-dissolve, a choice validated by a vote of the militants. About sixty young LRs therefore leave the ship, after this “drop of water that broke the camel’s back“, according to Theo Thomas.
“The real problem with Republicans today is that they have no connection with the youth. In reality, they remained in the old political algorithm which wants that there are tenors and a movement young militants, mainly there to stick posters “, he deciphers. Before adding reluctantly: “I don’t even know if there’s any real future for Republicans anymore.”
Since their stunt, these young Bretons claim to have received phone calls from several other departmental officials who are thinking of imitating them. They are now preparing a platform to try to get the party leadership to react.
