“I ask for forgiveness from France”declared during her police custody the mother of Armand Rajabpour-Miyandoab, the man suspected of being the assailant of the attack near the Eiffel Tower on Saturday evening, franceinfo learned on Tuesday December 5 from a source close to the investigation, confirming information from Le Parisien.
The custody of this man’s two parents was lifted on Monday, franceinfo learned from the national anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office. No proceedings have been decided against them.
“I no longer have a son”, declared his mother while in police custody, this source explained to franceinfo, evoking her “love” for France. She also asked “sorry to France” as well as “sorry to the family of this German” killed during the attack.
An action in “reaction to the persecution of Muslims around the world”
Armand Rajabpour-Miyandoab, a 26-year-old Franco-Iranian, says he acted “reaction to the persecution of Muslims around the world”, Franceinfo also learned on Monday from a source close to the matter. He was arrested after the attack which caused the death of a young German-Filipino tourist and injured two other people, Saturday around 9:30 p.m. near the Bir-Hakeim bridge (15th arrondissement).
He is still in police custody, as is a 27-year-old woman, on S file and suspected of having exchanged text messages with him shortly before his act.
