Domestic violence: “I am quite against the automaticity of sentences”, indicates lawyer Tiphaine Auzière, author of “Assises”
(France 2)
Tiphaine Auzière, lawyer and novelist, was the guest of “4 Vérités” on France 2, Wednesday March 20.
Tiphaine Auzière publishes Seats (Stock editions), a novel through which the lawyer creates a very human X-ray of French justice on a daily basis, of those who live it and those who render it, with a strong theme: influence. One of the main characters in the novel, Laura, was the victim of this influence on a daily basis. She finds herself before the assizes in Saint-Omer (Pas-de-Calais) after having killed her violent companion, assisted by her lawyer, who is the common thread of this novel.
Tiphaine Auzière, daughter of Brigitte Macron, is the guest of “4 Vérités” on France 2, Wednesday March 20. Returning to the character of Laura, the novelist explains that“we see that she was the victim of violence, that she had taken legal action, but that justice took a while and, finally, she found herself in the situation of an executioner, although initially “It’s a love story.”. “What interested me through this love story was the path of deconstruction. Because in fact, influence affects everyone, whether in the family, in professional life . It can be in romantic relationships. I wanted to show it through this character”continues the novelist.
A “trivialization of violence”
Asked more generally about the scourge of domestic violence, the lawyer indicates: “I am quite against the automaticity of sentences, because I think that we do not judge facts, but men.” Noting that “the legal and social arsenal has been strengthened” on the subject of domestic violence, Tiphaine Auzière underlines the importance that must also be given to “education component”. The lawyer also warns about “the trivialization of violence, and in particular verbal violence”. “We see it a lot on the networks, sometimes in certain political speeches. For me, those responsible must be really clear on this, because verbal violence is the first act before physical violence”she continues.
