“I am firmly convinced of the need to upgrade the mission, because there is a real problem with the attractiveness of the municipal police sector”, estimates Sunday December 24 on franceinfo Lionel Royer-Perreaut, Renaissance deputy for Bouches-du-Rhône and co-author of an information report on the missions and attractiveness of the municipal police, with the deputy Alexandre Vincendet. The 26,000 municipal police officers are called to strike on Sunday evening, as well as on December 31, to demand the same social benefits as their colleagues in the national police.

The member recognizes that there is “strong expectations” on the part of municipal police officers, whether they are linked “to the compensation scheme” or to “index regime”. He also mentions the “new missions” envisaged by the Prime Minister, “in particular of the judicial police” and that “raised a certain number of questions”.

“They are part of the security continuum”

Lionel Royer-Perreaut assures that a law, which must arrive “during spring 2024”, is “co-construction” with the unions. The MP assures that he supports “totally” the unions’ demand to upgrade municipal police officers to category B civil servants. They “are part of the security continuum” And “are often the first to intervene in scenes of violence or criminal acts”, he justifies. Furthermore, he recalls that from “January 1, 2024, prison officers will become category B”, must therefore “an alignment” in order to preserve “a form of attractiveness” of the municipal police.

On the other hand, the elected Renaissance underlines that such a measure will “an impact on community finances”, who are in charge of the municipal police. He believes that there must be “a debate between the government and associations of local elected officials”while some “would like the State to take part of it.”
