Hundreds of people march in Montreal “for the well-being of seniors”

On the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, Sunday, the organization Un et un font mille organized a march in the streets of Montreal to encourage governments to rethink care for seniors. Minister Sonia Bélanger, who was present, says she hears the protesters’ call and once again promises to improve support for home care.

“We want to make people aware of the idea that we can act in the face of the realities of aging,” says François Grisé, founder and general director of Un et un font mille. We cannot wait for all the solutions to come from the government. It is community workers who bring about real change in their communities.

The Minister responsible for Quebec Seniors, Sonia Bélanger, promises to further support them as part of her Government policy Aging and living together at home, in your community, in Quebec (VVE) 2024-2029, which is due to be unveiled next year. “We have improved the condition of CHSLDs since the pandemic […]but we must also improve access to healthy food, transport and employment for the elderly.”

The march, which began around 10:15 a.m. at Jeanne-Mance Park, with an opening speech from the spokesperson for Un et un font mille, the actress Louise Deschâtelets, brought together hundreds of participants. It ended with a concert by Gregory Charles, at La Fontaine Park, around 11:30 a.m.
