Hundreds of Jewish groups across Canada threatened with bombs

(Ottawa) Police in several cities across Canada are responding to bomb threats that were sent Wednesday morning to Jewish organizations, synagogues and some hospitals.




B’nai Brith Canada says more than 100 Jewish institutions received an email at 5 a.m. Eastern Time threatening explosions, and Ottawa police say they are at several hospitals in the capital.

Synagogues, Jewish community centres and hospitals in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa are among those that have confirmed receiving the threat.

Ottawa police said the RCMP is leading the investigation.

A spokeswoman for the Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa said police determined the situation was “low risk” but that an extensive search was conducted at the hospital and on the grounds.

“This is not just an attack on our security, it is an attack on the fabric of Canadian society,” B’nai Brith said in a statement.

Joined by The Pressthe Montreal Police Department announced that complaints of threats made against locations in the metropolis have been transferred to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

“The Montreal Police Department (SPVM) takes all threats seriously and, in support of the RCMP, will conduct local checks in the event of 911 calls regarding threats. The information collected by the SPVM will be forwarded to the RCMP,” the SPVM responded by email.
