Human life and ratings

We like to believe that human life is of equal value for all. But mediatically speaking, what about it? The case of the sinking of the small submarine, actively sought around the remains of the titanic at the time of this writing, is very interesting. I hope we find the passengers safe and sound. […] The international media are on the lookout and are multiplying interviews with salvage and submarine experts, and even with a brave British billionaire who managed the expedition to the wreck of the titanic with his son a few months ago. We do not skimp on the media coverage, live and continuously, nor on the means. The suspense is intense.

The suspense was obviously much less when the old fishing boat, crowded with people, was recently spotted off the coast of Greece. However, the aerial images of the old tub, overloaded with desperate emigrants, were harbingers of a large-scale human catastrophe. We didn’t have to search the bottom of the sea. Would the outcome have been the same, namely the loss of at least a hundred human lives, if the media had taken an interest in it, not after the sinking, but in the previous hours? […] Shipwrecks of emigrants in the Mediterranean are almost common. So, can we really criticize our media for following to the minute the search for five people from a mini-submarine… visiting the wreck of the famous titanic ? ! Admit that this new suspense is not routine!
