Pensions, health, climate… Emmanuel Macron wishes to initiate numerous reforms during his second five-year term. However, it looks complicated.

Barely elected for his new five-year term, Emmanuel Macron must undertake several reforms. That of pensions, abandoned in 2020, should be relaunched to push back the legal retirement age to 64 in 2028. This requires a majority in the National Assembly. For Anne-Sophie Alsif, Chief Economist at BDO France, the decline in Chinese growth and the war in Ukraine will have “an impact on budgetary and monetary policies”, and could change this project.

Emmanuel Macron also wants to entrust ecological planning to the Prime Minister and diversify the energy mix. With the IPCC report, which gives leaders two years to act, these efforts should be greater. Finally, the president wants to recruit caregivers and fight against medical deserts. But, for Nathalie Coutinet, health economist and lecturer at the University of Paris 13, her solutions are difficult to apply.
