Back pain, back pain, lumbago… Low back pain affects 80% of French people. On the 13 Hours set, Friday April 7, journalist and doctor Damien Mascret explains the causes of this pain.
Low back pain, better known as lumbago or back pain, is one of the major health problems of our time: 80% of French people are affected. “Low back pain is pain in the lower back, in the last five lumbar vertebrae (…) but it is benign four times out of five“, explains doctor Damien Mascret on the set of 13 Hours, Friday April 7. Workers carrying heavy loads are particularly exposed.
A risk of herniated disc
This pain can come fromvertebrae that can fracture, which is called vertebral collapse”, describes Damien Mascret. Located between the vertebrae, “the intervertebral disc can also suffer to the point of forming a herniated disc.” At the same level, muscles and ligaments can also be painful. Doing sports remains the best treatment, because the disc “which has very few vessels (…) feeds when we move.“Finally, Damien Mascret advises to consult in case of fever or sudden weight loss.
