With this incredible success in France: book boxes…I’m sure you’ve come across them before, maybe even every day: a little house on the side of the street, a shelf in a playpen, with the mention help yourself sometimes, or read, it’s free ! No need for instructions, we know we can use it, anyway it’s made for and we also know that we can put down the books that we don’t want to keep at home…
A massive presence in France
Everywhere, I don’t know, but there are a lot of them… take a look at the site Boite-a-lire.com, it lists them… I found one in Moutier-Malcard in Creuse under the bus shelter opposite of the town hall, one in Thorame Basse (Alpes de Hautes Provence) at the Château Garnier washhouse, or one in Dives-sur-mer (Calvados) rue du General de Gaulle…I will stop there…there are some has thousands in France, probably 10,000!
surprise boxes
It’s true and maybe that’s what makes it salty… Last week I opened a box to read in a park in the Paris region, it looked very sparse, but my 6-year-old son years pointed out to me a pirate book, Treasure Island, with the embossed pages. It made her happy…free!
Obtain the great classics of French literature without taking out a euro
So there I must say that I was the first surprised … but if you want to read in digital version (or printed by your care) Cyrano de Bergerac (Edmond Rostand), The Odyssey of Homer or the adventures of Tom Sawyer of Mark Twain I found a way to do it for free and legally in two clicks.
Several sites can give you access, atramenta.net is rather well done in particular…
Where to give the books that we no longer want?
You are spoiled for choice: Recyclivres, Libraries without borders, Emmaüs, the Geev association or the popular relief.
And of course a stairwell, a window sill…or a book box will also do the trick!
