In France, there are nearly 500 hit-and-runs per day, 181,000 in 2021. Very often, it is difficult to find the criminals, despite the multiplication of cameras in the streets.

From a playground to his parents’ apartment, there is only one road. But it is on these few meters that a little boy died. While crossing with his little sister, the four-year-old child is run over by a car. “There was someone driving, the car more or less dodged it, drove off, hit the child and without braking, drove off”said a witness.

Difficult investigations without witnesses

After the accident, the driver takes a break and then restarts. An inconceivable attitude for the family of the deceased child. “Someone who leaves, it becomes inadmissible, it becomes a crime”said the victim’s uncle. The number of hit and run offenses is on the rise, there are more than 181,000 in 2021, or nearly 500 per day. “It scares me more than the noise, and especially when I see vehicles coming towards me, I feel a bit hot, it brings back bad memories”explains Tidiane Ba, victim of a road accident in 2018. The police never found the person driving, as often in this kind of case if there are no witnesses or cameras.
