While the situation continues to deteriorate in France, where 30% of the population is affected by the shortage of doctors, the Health Insurance has proposed several solutions in a report.
Today, it is estimated that 6 million patients have no attending physician. “We come across this type of sign more and more with the writing ‘doctor search’ very roughly and very often in rural areas. But not only. If we look at the map of medical deserts for general practitioners, some areas have less of 71 doctors per 100,000 inhabitants. Even Ile-de-France is concerned”, explains Arnaud Boutet on the set of 19/20. And the situation continues to deteriorate, since it is estimated that “30% of the French population is affected by this shortage of doctors”almost twice as many as in 2018.
But what are the solutions? “There are several possibilities that are issued in a report from the Health Insurance. First, it is to make doctors work a little longer, if possible until they are 65 or older, by being at the once retired but working. That is to say part-time. And then having a new relationship with the doctor and the nurse, which could have more roles, more responsibilities, so that finally the doctor is entirely devoted to the patients”emphasizes Arnaud Boutet.
