Monday, May 1, new tensions arose on the sidelines of the demonstrations. A scenario that has become almost usual in recent weeks that raises this question again: what legal arsenal against black blocs?
Demonstration after demonstration, the violence on the sidelines of the union processions is increasing in intensity. After new clashes THE Monday 1st May, a question comes back: why not prohibit these individuals who constitute the black blocks from demonstrating? “We are in a state
of right and we cannot therefore not prejudge the offenses that will be committed, and therefore we cannot stop these individuals from entering the demonstrations” said Lawrence Nunez, police chief of Paris.
A new anti-black bloc law?
In 2019, during the demonstrations of the yellow vests, a first law had been promulgated in this direction: prohibition to conceal his face and searches ahead of gatherings. But the Minister of the Interior, Gerald Darmanin, wants to go further with a new law. “We imagine that the government will put back on the table the measure which allows the prefect to pronounce a ban on demonstrating to certain individuals in a preventive manner and without the intervention of a magistrate “, says Sophie Neumayer, police-justice journalist. A law which has already been censored by the Constitutional Council for its risk of freedom.
