The south of Spain has always had a dry and hot climate. Nature and inhabitants have adapted to it, but climate change is worsening the situation. If water runs out, it will be a matter of survival for them. Large suppliers of the vegetable garden of Europe for its fruits and vegetables, Spanish farmers are worried: less water means less harvest. However, there are solutions: in the region of Murcia, 98% of wastewater is treated by new generation treatment plants for farmers. Welcome but insufficient innovations. The Spaniards are now facing the end of a model, like Barcelona, which is beginning to restrict residents’ water consumption.
