Israel finds itself on two fronts: on the one hand, weeks of bombing on Gaza and Hamas with uncertain results, and on the other, in Lebanon where, thanks to Israeli intelligence, Hezbollah was decimated in a few days. A look back at an upheaval achieved in twelve days.
Israel caused a global shockwave by eliminating the leader of Hezbollah, its number one enemy for more than 30 years. The result of several months of work by Israeli intelligence came to light on September 17, with the simultaneous explosion of thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies. The Mossad would have taken care to divert stocks to place charges there. In two days, 37 people died and more than 3,000 were injured.
Forced to expose themselves, several leaders fell, targeted by assassinations. September 23 was the deadliest day in Lebanon since the 1990s. While the air force struck, the intelligence services continued to search for Hassan Nasrallah. Israel obtained certainty this week that he was in Hezbollah’s command center, south of Beirut, with around twenty militia executives and an Iranian general. At 6:15 p.m., Friday September 27, Benjamin Netanyahu gives the order from New York. Hassan Nasrallah is dead and Hezbollah is weakened, but Israel’s blitzkrieg is not over.
