how Delphine, blind from birth, “succeeded in finding her place”

“When I was born, nobody saw anything, even the doctors. It was my mum who wondered why I didn’t open my eyes. By dint of insisting, there were exams, and then one day, a doctor said to them: ‘Your daughter, she does not see, and she will never see’.”

In this excerpt from “Special Envoy”, Delphine talks about the discovery of her blindness. In front of the photos of a child “looking always pensive, pensive”, his parents remember: when they learned that one of his eyes was “atrophied, it did not develop” and that the retina of the other was damaged, they “collected very difficultly”.

Family life, professional life … a “great success”

“After, her mother said, we had to climb back up.” Delphine’s parents decided to “educate her as if she saw”. “It was essential, judge this one today. Otherwise, how can you lead a normal life if you think that it’s the others who have to adapt, and you’re waiting? This is not how you can manage to evolve, and then find your place.”

Despite her disability, this place, Delphine found her, and this “normal life”, she led it – and even “a beautiful life”, believes this mother of two children. If she did not realize her dream of being a children’s judge, she successfully passed the clerk’s competition: “a great success.”
