Meeting with Joe and Slim, 70 years old, a couple from Los Angeles who gave up everything to come and bake bread in France. Installed in a small village in the South, they conquered all the inhabitants.
The whole village of Val (Var) loves their bread. The bakery has been in place for a few months. An unusual scenario for these two Americans who came to live in France. They make their bread in their garage, transformed into a professional bakery. “It’s German bread, which is a wheat and rye flour bread, with lots of seeds, oatmeal”explains Joey Mayer, baker in Val (Var).
Lovers of bread and France
These gestures, they did not know them two years ago. Joey Mayer and Slim Mzalli lived in Los Angeles (USA), where they worked in the cinema. Lovers of bread, of France and totally bilingual, they decided to settle in the Var. Every week, they make 250 kg of bread which they sell in a small room in the center of the village. Everything is organic and sourdough. “It’s one of the best I’ve eaten”, confides a client. The village of 4,200 inhabitants is delighted with their arrival. There had been no bakery here for two years.
