If you love nature, biodiversity and birds, the following is for you! For the tenth year, the League for the Protection of Birds (LPO) and the National Museum of Natural History invite you to take part in the national bird count weekend, this Saturday 29 and Sunday 3 January 2022. No need to be an expert, just a little curious and patient, because the idea is to post you for an hour, in your garden or in a public garden and observe the number of birds that come to rest there and count them!
More and more participants in Burgundy
Great Tit, European Greenfinch, European Goldfinch, take note but to help you the LPO offers a small illustrated guide. A count that allows year after year to discover the species present in the garden in our region. In January 2021, more than 804 gardens took part in Burgundy.
But what to expect in Côte-d’Or?
Chances are you’ll observe, “great tits, robins or house sparrows, these are the most common species in Côte-d’Or”, continues Mathieu Robert, who is delighted to see that the number of participants continues to increase. “After an increase in 2020, there was an increase of 24% in 2021 and the objective this year is to cross the 1000 gardens, as is the case in other regions.”
“It’s a fun moment, a happiness like a meditation” – Bernadette Millot a volunteer of the LPO
Once again this year, Bernadette Millot will be stationed in her garden to “observe this little world” as she says, “I sat in a little corner and watched the goldfinches, the finches, the little tits that live there.” For this volunteer at the LPO, “It’s an exciting moment but it’s also a joy, like a meditation. it gives comfort, it’s an extraordinary opportunity.”
