NDP MPs met today with local housing experts to get suggestions on how Ottawa can meet the housing needs of low-income households.
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said Liberal and Conservative housing policies favor private development to address Canada’s housing shortage.
But he said the government also needs to find ways to invest in non-profit housing, custom rental housing and housing co-ops.
The party’s mental health critic, Gord Johns, said the free market cannot be relied upon to resolve the issue of affordability in the country. Instead, we must look for other solutions.
