A close friend of Donald Trump to interview Vladimir Putin. American presenter Tucker Carlson struck a major blow on Tuesday, February 6, by announcing that he would soon interview the Russian president. “We are here to interview the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin”declared the conservative star from Moscow, in a four-minute video published on the social network.

The controversial reporter recently fired from Fox News claimed that most Americans are misinformed about the conflict in Ukraine and its aftermath. “They have no idea what is happening in the region (…) They should know, because they pay a large part of it”, he judged. In recent months, the host has more than once been critical of Washington’s support for Ukraine.

No release date announced

Tucker Carlson also discussed some of the arrangements surrounding the interview, claiming among other things to have paid for his trip himself. “There are obviously risks in conducting an interview like this. So we thought about it carefully for several months”he clarified.

The journalist did not announce precisely when the interview with Vladimir Putin would take place. “We will do that soon”, he simply said. Asked Tuesday about the visit of the American presenter, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Peskov refused to comment on the “travels of foreign journalists”.

Since leaving Fox News, Tucker Carlson has hosted a show, rebroadcast on the social network owned by Elon Musk. At the head of “Tucker Carlson Tonight” between 2016 and 2023, the fifty-year-old had become one of the most influential voices in conservative America, accused of popularizing conspiracy and racist theories.
