(Rouyn-Noranda) The Legault government is ignoring the needs of the residents of Rouyn-Noranda whom it wants to relocate away from the Horne Foundry, whom it has not yet consulted, has no precise timetable and does not say what he would do with any refusal to leave.
Citizens concerned are instead invited to give their contact details to be contacted in order to be surveyed on their needs, senior officials from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing said Thursday in a presentation of the “government action plan to support Rouyn-Noranda” for the media prior to the press conference on the subject scheduled for early afternoon.
Letters were sent Thursday morning on this subject to households located in the perimeter targeted by Quebec to enlarge the “buffer zone” between the foundry and the Notre-Dame district.
Some 200 households would be relocated to a new neighborhood; the City of Rouyn-Noranda “is currently working to analyze [les] land” available, senior officials said.
Quebec does not give itself a deadline for completing this major trip, which it wishes to carry out “as soon as possible”.
The government assures that no one will be forced to leave, but does not say what it will do with any refusals.
“We are convinced that with the measures in place, we will find solutions,” said a senior official.
More details to come.
