“Horizons” wants to settle in the Corsican landscape

He himself installed his third municipal committee of Corsica in Ajaccio, after those of Bastia and Ile-Rousse, twenty-four hours earlier. About 150 people were present in the room. Prestige of the convention center, 200 according to the organizers.

Edouard Philippe strolled through the streets of the city, answered a few questions from the audience during the installation meeting at the convention center, and discussed his vision for the Corsica of tomorrow.

“No other local authority in France has as much competence as the Collectivity of Corsica, and that seems understandable, justifiable and legitimized. But how does this community exercise this competence? It’s up to the Corsicans to say it, and they say it to the time of the elections. Do we need to go much further? The question is not miserable, we can ask it. But for me, given the recent date of entry into force of this new way of exercising skills, we could take the time to see how it works… have we really reached the end of what was possible today before asking the question of other institutional developments?

-I never close the door to anything! Why close the door to a referendum! I’ve never been against it, but the question is “Which law do you want to pass?”, “Which system do you want to adopt?”.

At the podium, the mayor of Le Havre swept away certain major national subjects (Security, social networks, the Mediterranean, etc.), but also spoke on more local subjects. Ajaccio is the city of its regional referent for “Horizons” Laurent Marcangeli.

The president of the largest agglomeration on the island (87,726 inhabitants in 2018 according to INSEE) will be in a way the Corsican compass of “Horizons”… but how far? Maybe until 2027, according to the hopeful response fromAntoine Maestrali, delegate to the Ajaccien committee of the party.
