After eight months of war, American President Joe Biden presented, Friday, May 31, a new roadmap for a ceasefire in Gaza. A proposal considered positive by Hamas.

Joe Biden took the world by surprise. Friday, May 31, the American president spoke unexpectedly to endorse a proposal for a lasting ceasefire in Gaza, accompanied by the release of all the hostages. “We are at a decisive moment. Israel has made this proposal. Hamas says it wants a ceasefire, we will see if they really want it,” thundered Joe Biden.

The American president himself detailed the proposal. The first phase includes a six-week ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli troops from populated areas of Gaza and the start of the exchange of Palestinian hostages and prisoners. Phase two provides for the end of hostilities, only if the negotiations initiated are successful, with the release of all hostages in exchange for prisoners, and the total withdrawal of Israeli forces. Phase 3 would be that of reconstruction.

Saturday June 1, Hamas welcomes this proposal positively, but this plan is very similar to the one discussed for weeks, but which did not come to fruition. The Israeli Prime Minister also qualified Joe Biden’s comments, repeating in this press release that the war would only end with the destruction of the military capabilities and the Hamas government.
