After covid-19 and the confinements, many French people have taken the step of buying a house with a garden. But many others have given up because of the sharp increase in the cost of building materials.
Jean-Marc builds individual houses in the region of Troyes (Aube). With the rise in the price of raw materials, these customers worry about the amount of the final invoice. A mother has ordered a house of 95m2 in January 2021. “The price of the frame, between the time Madame Dubreuil ordered it and the time we placed our order on our side, it took more than 30%”confirms Jean-Marc short.
But the mother of the family has signed a fixed price clause in her sales contract, unlike other buyers. Without this, “between the field and the house, it would not have been possible”assures the mother of the family. As in Troyes, everywhere in France, sales fell by -18.5% in one year around Paris and almost -30% in Occitania. Nicolas wanted to build a house of 120m2 for 300,000 euros but finally he fell back on buying an old house. “If we had had it built, we would have exceeded our budget by 50,000 euros”, he declares.
