The Napanee, Ont., native became the latest entertainment industry personality to receive a star on the sidewalk along Hollywood Boulevard.

This milestone in her career comes as the 37-year-old artist celebrates the 20e anniversary of his first album let’s go who propelled her to the heights of the music industry with her song Complicated and other hits like Sk8er boi and I’m With You.

Colson Baker, better known by his stage name Machine Gun Kelly, attended the ceremony. The singer who accompanies Avril Lavigne on tour said she was “an inspiration to a generation of kids” like him.

The pop-punk singer began her speech by revealing an enlarged photo of herself as a 16-year-old in the same location.

The photo showed the teenager with high aspirations lying on the sidewalk next to one of the celebrity stars, wearing the same hoodie emblazoned with the message ‘skateboarding is not a crime’.

The eight-time Grammy nominee said it brought her luck.

“Today, I love making music more than ever. I feel so inspired, ”said Avril Lavigne, thanking her family and her fiancé Derek Smith, a rapper known under the artist name Mod Sun.

She went on to say that she hopes her star will also inspire the next 16-year-old who “will come to Hollywood one day full of hopes and dreams.”

“Live your passion. Express yourself,” she continued. “Be real. Work hard. Keep your head up. Believe in yourself. »

She concluded her speech with thanks.

“Thank you very much for this honor. I’m so grateful to be able to party with all of you afterwards.”
