The suspect also lives very close to the scene of the hit-and-run which occurred on December 9 at around 9:30 p.m. in the evening. He will, according to our information, be charged in the next few hours with hit and run causing injury.
Two weeks ago, Catherine Dumberry was crossing Route 116 using the pedestrian crossing, near Jean-Charles Michaud Street, when she was violently hit by the driver who was, in all likelihood, driving at 70 km/h, which is the maximum speed allowed.
He did not stop after the impact and the 34-year-old woman suffered serious injuries. She considers herself lucky to be alive. Ms. Dumberry granted an interview to our journalist Yves Poirier while she is hospitalized at the Montreal General Hospital.
“We cannot rejoice in the misfortune of others. But I am extremely relieved, because this person must stop harming, the gesture that she made is horrible. Once he realized he had run into someone, yes he should have stopped, yes he should have come. I don’t even understand how I’m still alive, considering I have a cousin who had a drastically less serious accident and his spleen burst. He almost died. Me, I have an accident ten times more serious and I am still alive”, entrusts the mother to TVA Nouvelles.
The mayor of Saint-Basile-le-Grand has indicated that a pedestrian-activated flashing sign will be added to this pedestrian crossing.
The appearance is scheduled for Thursday afternoon of the driver at the Longueuil courthouse.
