Historic Cannabis Seizure in Laval

The Laval police carried out this week the dismantling of cannabis plantations on a scale that they describe as historic.

The report of the seizures drawn up by the Service de police de Laval (SPL) notably mentions cannabis plants worth $2.271 million and a shipment of dried cannabis worth $5.214 million. In addition, police seized $279,000 worth of cannabis resin and production equipment worth $500,000.

The total value of this dragnet is more than $8 million; three men were arrested.

The dismantling took place last Wednesday in two commercial buildings located on boulevard Leman, in an industrial sector of the Duvernay district.

The police report that the supporters of one of the two buildings had a cannabis production license which had been granted by Health Canada. However, the investigation by police officers from the SPL’s Organized Crime Squad was able to establish that the parameters of this permit were not respected and that production greatly exceeded the number of plants allocated by the authorities.

Search warrants were therefore obtained for two buildings and a vehicle.

Several SPL squads worked for almost 48 hours in order to carry out the operation, due to its exceptional scale.

The three arrested suspects, aged between 38 and 53, were arrested for producing cannabis and were later released pending further legal proceedings against them.

The SPL reports that this survey was carried out as part of the ACCES Cannabis program set up in the fall of 2018 by the Government of Quebec and coordinated by the Ministry of Public Security.

Anyone who has information about this operation in Laval can communicate confidentially with the SPL or dial 911.
