In the Tarn, the construction project for the A69 linking Toulouse and Castres led to a mobilization on Saturday April 22. A peaceful demonstration closely watched by the authorities.
Hundreds of opponents have already arrived. They hope that this day will be decisive and their objective is extremely clear. “We are asking the government to give up, and to give up is not to lose, to ask questions about the relevance of a project like this”, launches a protester. The A69 project aims to build a 53 km section between Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) and Castres (Tarn) to replace the current road. Some have been camping for several days in the trees or in the open field. For opponents, the project is useless. “This is a project that dates back twenty years and today the government says it is sensitive to the climate, so it is time to review the projects”cowardly one of them.
A demonstration supported by elected officials
The demonstrators also received the support of some elected officials such as a member of France Insoumise. “It is not possible that we build a highway today with all that is happening on the drought”, explains Karen Erodi, LFI MP for Tarn. Around the site, 800 police and gendarmes are mobilized by the authorities. These want to be vigilant, a month after the clashes linked to the mega-basins in Sainte-Soline (Deux-Sèvres).
