What will be the next target or operation of the Israeli army? Questions that the Islamist movement of Hezbollah must probably ask itself on Saturday, September 21, as Israel has clearly opened an unprecedented offensive. An update on the situation.
As Hezbollah members bury those they consider martyrs, several hundred activists want to show that the Shiite militia is not afraid in the streets. Yesterday, Friday, September 20, four airstrikes hit a building in the southern suburbs of Beirut. A basement meeting of the Al-Radwan unit was targeted. The elite Hezbollah force was then beheaded. Sixteen of its members died, including their leader, Ibrahim Aqil.
Nothing remains of the targeted building. On the morning of Saturday, September 21, the search for survivors was underway. The southern suburbs of Beirut are known to be Hezbollah’s stronghold. Here, no one questions its presence. In the rest of Beirut, especially in the Christian quarter, fear prevails. A fear that is taking hold in the heart of the Lebanese capital. A larger-scale military operation is feared by the population.
