Hermann Hesse Calw Museum
The Hermann Hesse Museum was opened in 1990 in the historic city palace “Haus Schüz”. After 1964, the second Hermann Hesse Museum in Calw.
From the floor of the museum you can look at the birthplace of the poet. The biographical exhibition contains the most extensive collection of the 1946 Nobel laureate and still the world’s most widely read German-language author of the 20th century.
In nine rooms, a large biographical arc spans the life, work and history of the poet since the first literary attempts of “Steppenwolf” and “Glasperlenspiel”. The painter Hermann Hesse is represented in the museum with some of his most impressive paintings.
The museum contains works of the poet in first and later editions, manuscripts, drawings and watercolors by the artist. Photos of the stages of his life, in particular in Calw.
On behalf of Hermann Hesse, scholarship recipients are honored by the “Hermann Hesse Calw Foundation”. A special room is dedicated to them on one floor of the “Haus Schüz”.
In the special exhibition area, temporary exhibitions on the subject of Hermann Hesse are shown. Museum educational offers complete the offer.
