A 20-year-old Frenchman who hoped to go unnoticed by entering a home through the chimney had no choice but to denounce himself by calling for help, after getting caught in the middle of the night in an unfortunate posture.
During the night from Friday to Saturday, neighbors of an uninhabited property in Clermont-l’Hérault, west of Montpellier in France, were reportedly awakened in the early hours of the morning, around 3 a.m., by cries of calls for rescue, reported “Midi Libre” on Saturday.
Except that when firefighters and police arrived on the scene, they found the 20-year-old boy stuck in the chimney, to the point where they were forced to demolish part of the ceiling to free him, according to the French media.
The young man was transported to Lapeyronie hospital in Montpellier to treat scratches, but his injuries were believed to be minor, said “Midi Libre”.
For their part, the police will try to determine the motives which would have pushed the young man to jump into the chimney, whether to steal or to squat in the house, although they suspect that he was not trying to put up gifts under the tree as the holidays approach.
