(Lac D’elvert) The victims of a helicopter crash in northwestern Quebec have been identified as a couple and their grandson.
The Quebec coroner’s office has identified the three people who died in a helicopter crash that occurred late Sunday in the northwest of the province.
Gérard Legault, 80, and Aurore Lanoix, 77, of Amos, Que., along with Jake Russell Barfield, 22, were pronounced dead after the helicopter they were traveling in was found Monday at Lac D’Elvert in the La Vérendrye wildlife reserve.
Mining supplies company McMines said on its website that Mr. Legault and Mr.me Lanoix were married, and that Mr. Barfield was their grandson.
Mr. Legault founded the company in the 1980s, and the website said he and the other victims will be mourned by many family members, business partners, employees and friends.
Police were called late Sunday about three people who went missing after taking off in a helicopter from Mont-Laurier, Que., about 185 kilometres northwest of Montreal.
Police said bad weather may have played a role in the crash and the victims contacted relatives to say they planned to land the helicopter and wait for better conditions.
