Negotiations between health insurance and doctors are deadlocked. The two main unions of general practitioners have said no to the Health Insurance proposal to increase the consultation from 25 to 26.50 euros.

In his office in Picardy, Dr Antoine Laforêt, general practitioner, is not losing his temper. The current price for a consultation is 25 euros. Health insurance offers GPs to increase their consultations to 26.50 euros. “Offering us 1.50 euros is a tip”, believes Dr Antoine Laforêt. Only practitioners agreeing to make commitments would obtain a higher rate of 30 euros per consultation, provided they meet several criteria: monitor at least 1,200 patients, work in a medical desert, work on Saturday mornings or even provide night duty.

The threat of disappointment

Conditions that exclude, for example, general practitioners from small and medium-sized towns. In this showdown, some unions are brandishing the threat of deconvention, that is to say free fees. A possibility that theHealth Insurance want to avoid at all costs. By the evening of Tuesday, February 28, failing agreement, the price of consultations will be set by a senior official appointed by the Ministry of Health.
