A pedophile who wanted to stay in prison for a “long time” has had his wish partially granted. Alexandre Théberge was sentenced Tuesday to three and a half years in prison, in addition to being declared a long-term offender. He will thus be subject to strict surveillance for 10 years.
However, Judge Benoît Gariépy almost refused this joint suggestion of sentence. [Je l’accepte] “On the sole condition that you confessed and that was the only proof. Otherwise, it would have been the first time in six years that I would not have accepted a joint suggestion,” the judge concluded Tuesday at the Longueuil courthouse.
The 25-year-old Longueuil resident pleaded guilty last April to possession and distribution of child pornography. He was caught transmitting 370 files of child pornography. Some of the videos showed children under the age of ten and babies in diapers. The assaults were violent and disturbing.
Alexandre Théberge had just come out of a one-year prison sentence for child pornography offences when he reoffended in the first week. The quantities transacted by Théberge are astronomical: 1 terabyte of data, or 1000 gigabytes or 1 trillion bytes.
The pedophile confessed everything to the police. He even admitted that his pedophilia was “progressing” and that he was consuming “more horrible” child pornography than before his last prison sentence. This is why he wanted to remain in prison for “a long time”.
Me Bruno Des Lauriers represented the public prosecutor, while Mr.e Richard Ouellette defended the offender who will be registered in the Sex Offender Registry.
