Around twenty New York and Montreal musicians surround composer, saxophonist and conductor Christine Jensen on Harbour, including Chet Doxas (tenor), Gary Versace (piano), Samuel Blais (baritone and bass clarinet), Rémi-Jean LeBlanc (double bass) and his sister Ingrid Jensen (trumpet). Work for modern big band, Harbour sees the composer deploy treasures of imagination, from the astonishing Passion Lion’s Gate in the opening, equipped with fluid brass orchestrations and featuring the frank sound of its sister. Past the sweet and ingenious Swirlaround (with nature sounds), Wink unfolds in a swing with exciting rhythmic progressions. In turn, Surge gives in the gentleness of a conversation between the piano and the saxophone leading to the title piece, its catchy theme declined in an elegant way by the guitar and the brass. While waiting to see the creation on stage of this sophisticated work, Christine Jensen will perform with her quintet on 1er July, at the Dièze Onze, playing at the FIJM.
