Release, on this first Friday in October, of a highly anticipated album. Marc-André Hamelin has played this famous and titanic concert a lot Hammerklavier Sonata by Beethoven. This September 2023 recording takes place approximately six months after his concert in Montreal for Pro Musica. We then characterized the interpretation by saying that it was “the most thought-out vision (in the Germanic sense of “ durchgedacht ”, a word which expresses a thought from top to bottom), the most accomplished and accomplished of what a “forte piano dream” could be with the power of the modern piano.” When listening to the record, we don’t quite feel the shock and thrill of the concert, because a certain form of sonic magic gives way to a process perceived as very analytical, even clinical. The sound recording also plays a role, because the piano lacks a little flesh. This laser reading, which has a rigor inherited from Bach, is therefore admirable, but austere, including in theOpus 2no 3.
