Findings distressing and deplorable”summarizes the president of the National Association of Pharmacy Students (Anepf). Investigation, revealed on Wednesday February 2 by the collectivereveals the extent of the sexual harassment experienced by female students in these courses.

48% of future pharmacists surveyed say they have experienced cases of sexual harassment during their studies. 55% would have been the subject of sexist remarks, and a quarter would have experienced a sexual assault, mainly during student parties. The survey, conducted between November and December 2021 among 2,103 pharmacy students, also highlights that women are twice as affected by these behaviors as men.

All environments are affected by this phenomenon, to different degrees: a third of pharmacy students say they are concerned, as are 28% of hospital students. Figures that echo the conclusions of a survey carried out in early 2020 by the association of medical students.

“This violence is more widespread in the health sector than in other university courses”added Théo Vitrolles, spokesperson for Anepf. He explains this difference by the weight of the “traditions” and one “mimicry effect” facilitated by learning “in isolation”. The president of Anepf, Numan Bahroun, affirmed his “willingness to break the omerta”.
