Traces of ethylene oxide (ETO), a carcinogenic pesticide banned in Europe, were detected. The American group General Mills will voluntarily recall four batches of its vanilla ice cream that it markets in France under the Häagen-Dazs brand, it announced in a press release on Wednesday July 6.

According to the food giant, these “traces of ETO can be attributed to an ingredient (vanilla extract) supplied by one of our suppliers. The residual presence of ETO slightly exceeds the analytical detection thresholds”he explains.

The following products are subject to an immediate recall: vanilla ice creams in 460 ml and 650 ml format, in small 95 ml pots, and those sold in boxes of four in the Vanilla Collection range, whose minimum durability runs from this Wednesday to May 21, 2023.

Among the many distributors concerned are Auchan, Carrefour, Casino, Cora Franprix, Intermarché, Leclerc and Monoprix. The list also includes Häagen-Dazs ice cream shops in France. “People who have purchased any of these products are asked to throw it away and contact General Mills”, says the group. The consumer service will answer questions from the users concerned on the following free number: 08 00 33 32 31.
