This is the last title that was missing from their huge list. Five-time European champions and four-time world champions, Guillaume Cizeron and Gabriella Papadakis have finally ticked the missing box. In Beijing, Monday, February 14, the duo became Olympic champions in ice dancing for the first time in their career, offering an eleventh medal to the French delegation.
With a score of 226.98 points, they even broke their own world record. They are ahead of the Russians Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov and the Americans Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue.
The emotion was great for Cizeron and Papadakis at the end of their free dance who felt that the gold medal could no longer escape them after a perfect free program, without a hitch. A few minutes later, it was the deliverance when the notes were displayed.
The victory of the tricolor duo is deserved as they dominated this ice dancing competition. On Saturday, they had already outclassed the competition in the rhythm dance by beating their own world record (90.83). This Monday, they were once again above the others, offering a score as moving as they were mastered, to also win the second round.
In total, with 226.98 points, Guillaume Cizeron and Gabriella Papadakis set a new ice dancing world record. Their previous performance was from November 2019 with a score of 226.61.
Four years after their silver medal, this Olympic crown has a special flavor for the couple. They had missed gold in Pyeongchang due, in part, to an unfortunate incident when Gabriella Papadakis’ dress had come undone. A long scar to erase which had notably led to a difficult Olympics. But it is now definitely closed. And the winners of the French are finally complete.
