A new brick has been created in Guyana to respond to environmental issues. They are already on sale in mainland France.

Guyana brick presents itself as a new alternative to concrete. The particularity of this material is that it is made of raw earth. To build the best bricks in Guyana, the earth must be of good quality. Laterite from Guyana is perfect for composing them. Usually, bricks are made with terracotta, but this is not the case. “The interest is above all not to have this big environmental impact of the ovens which would heat up, which would spend a lot of energy”says Vitoria Taïlamé, research officer.

Guyana brick also has great advantages. Thus, it offers excellent thermal and sound insulation. It also makes the regulation of humidity much better in the rooms of a dwelling. Some builders are already working with this new kind of material. However, it cannot be used to make a load-bearing wall. Some architects even think that eventually these bricks from Guyana could replace concrete.
